Depilatory Treatments
This unit will cover the different types of hair, hair growth and hair cycle, hair follicle and structure, skin diseases and contra indications in relation to the treatments being provided. Students will learn to identify the appropriate depilatory treatments for the specific skin type and area being treated. They will become familiar with the hair functions, types and disorders (eg. hirsutism, in-growing hairs) and should be able to advise and
perform depilatory treatments for different hair types. They will also be able to plan a course of treatments and to provide clients with aftercare/homecare advice
By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
a) Perform a thorough consultation – analysing the skin while noting any contra indications that could restrict treatment;
b) Recommend treatment according to client’s specific needs;
c) Demonstrate the ability in providing a professional depilatory treatment, according to area and hair type, following appropriate standard procedures;
d) Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of various depilatory treatments;
e) Provide adequate aftercare and homecare advice;
f) Create lessons, assessment tasks and resources on depilatory treatments.
a) Explain the structure and functions of the hair and hair growth cycle;
b) Describe diseases and disorders related to hair growth;
c) Describe the different methods of depilation;
d) Identify appropriate teaching approaches for the design and delivery of lessons on depilatory treatments.
a) Plan treatment process according to client’s needs and preferences;
b) Perform treatments according to client’s skin/hair type (including removal of in grown hair;
c) Give home cares advice;
d) Evaluate teaching approaches in the creation of lessons, assessment tasks and resources related to depilatory treatments;
e) Give feedback to students on their performance regarding depilatory treatments.
This module adopts a blended approach to teaching and learning.
