Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module shall address subjects related to pedagogical skills required to teach Hospitality with a particular focus on secondary level education and is intended for prospective teachers who aspire to teach hospitality.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

Competences

  • Analyse how schemes of work and lesson plans can contribute towards a more structured teaching, particularly for Hospitality topics;
  • Establish the different outcomes that support vocational education;
  • Explore the dimensions of decision making in vocational pedagogy;
  • Critically analyse the advantages of learning outcomes;
  • Examine how to link the learning outcomes to teaching and assessment;
  • Establish ways how to collaborate and liaise with the VET technician to ensure the smooth running of the lab;
  • Devise a scheme of work, lesson plans and resources;
  • Make use of different learning opportunities at the beginning, during and at the end of the lesson, that will boost motivation and eventually improve performance;
  • Develop lesson plans for promoting active learning and student engagement in a hospitality lab setting;
  • Create engaging and effective learning experiences in the hospitality lab;
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment within the hospitality lab.

Knowledge 

  • Understand the use of the learning outcomes approach;
  • Identify the difference between SEC and SEAC Hospitality curriculums;
  • Become familiar with the content of the different units within the Hospitality curriculums;

Skills

  • Manage the different areas of the Hospitality lab;
  • Determine which equipment is required for the different practical tasks;
  • Handle and operate the different Hospitality equipment available in the kitchen, bar, restaurant, laundry and housekeeping areas (including the bedroom);
  • Identify ideal ways how to store the different equipment and other resources adequately and securely;
  • Plan tasks that will help the student studying Hospitality to reach the learning outcome.
