Teaching and Learning in Agribusiness
This study unit will provide student teachers with the opportunity to implement different teaching and learning strategies and methods in practice for vocational agribusiness education, in order to promote learning in a classroom, laboratory or outdoor learning environment. Throughout this unit, different methods of instruction and their application according to the context and the learner’s needs will be discussed and students will be provided with an opportunity to develop their own teaching resources. Finally, the importance of teacher reflection and quality assurance strategies for measuring and improving the quality of agribusiness vocational education and training will be discussed. Through the assessment strategy implemented in this unit, the student teacher will prepare new teaching resources and analyse opportunities for personal improvement and for promoting effective teaching and learning in practice.
By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
a. Implement different teaching and learning methods to promote learning in agribusiness vocational education and training;
b. Use demonstration, laboratory and outdoor learning strategies to promote learning in agribusiness vocational education and training;
c. Assess learning through the use of suitable assessment strategies;
d. Measure quality of an agribusiness vocational education and training programme;
e. Reflect on own teaching practice and identify areas for improvement.
a. Identify the key components of an agribusiness education programme;
b. Identify methods for student assessment in agribusiness vocational education and training;
c. Describe frameworks for quality assurance in vocational educational, and with a focus on implementation in agribusiness.
a. Plan an agribusiness lesson that implements different teaching methods;
b. Implement lessons in the laboratory and/or fieldwork to promote contextual learning;
c. Analyse the role of information and communication technology in agribusiness vocational education and training;
d. Implement assessment methods that assess knowledge, skills and competences in agribusiness vocational education and training.
This module will be assessed through: Portfolio; Journal.
