Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for the module are to be in possession of one of the following: 

 

a. A Bachelor’s degree in Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting;  

OR 

b. A Bachelor’s degree (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) and PGCE (or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

c. A Bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with 3 years’ relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

d. A Master’s Degree (MQF Level 7 with a minimum of 90 ECTS, or equivalent) and a Permanent Teacher’s Warrant together with relevant experience in an educational setting

Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module introduces course participants to the 17 sustainable goals established by the UN in 2015. Participants will critically reflect on these goals, actively commit to their achievement, and share personal initiatives and best practices.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Connect different sustainable goals by critically analysing their interdependencies, and broader impacts;
  • Bridge theoretical knowledge on sustainable goals with innovative and effective classroom practice;
  • Translate some of the sustainable goals into measurable and concrete strategies within an educational setting;
  • Design evidence-based projects that translate sustainable goals into viable and doable actions within a school setting.
  • Contextually describe the 17 sustainable goals within local and global educational and socio-political landscapes;
  • Critically examine the ideological preambles and policy frameworks for sustainable goals within a local and global context;
  • Analyse the philosophical, ethical, social, economical, environmental, political and educational implications of sustainable goals;
  • Assess how sustainable goals are being addressed within different contexts.
  • Explore different modes of classroom practice to raise awareness of sustainable goals;
  • Synthesis diverse perspectives on the inter-relationship between different sustainable goals;
  • Practice experiential and community-based strategies to foster an understanding of sustainability that goes beyond the classroom;
  • Utilise creative and critical thinking when exploring different avenues to address sustainable goals.

This module will be assessed through: Assignment.
