Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for the module are to be in possession of one of the following: 

a. A Bachelor’s degree in Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting;  

OR 

b. A Bachelor’s degree (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) and PGCE (or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

c. A Bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with 3 years’ relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

d. A Master’s Degree (MQF Level 7 with a minimum of 90 ECTS, or equivalent) and a Permanent Teacher’s Warrant together with relevant experience in an educational setting

Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module aims to equip educators with the critical frameworks and practical strategies needed to analyse and transform school culture. Participants will learn to identify and challenge power dynamics, promote inclusive practices, and foster positive relationships that support the success of all students. By understanding the school’s active role in shaping culture, educators can become agents of positive change within their institutions.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Foster a collaborative school environment, challenging power dynamics, and working towards a shared goals;
  • Foster a sense of collective responsibility for critically examining and transforming school culture, promoting a culture of social justice;
  • Develop and manage effective strategies to address challenges within the school culture;
  • Engage in constructive dialogue with all stakeholders to advocate for critical thinking, trust and positive changes in the school culture;
  • Create a health promoting physical and emotional school environment that prioritises wellbeing and actively addresses issues of discrimination and marginalization.
  • Evaluate critically the principles, practices, and impact of various approaches necessary for building a positive school culture;
  • Identify key elements that contribute to a positive school cultures, such as respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and shared values;
  • Critically review ways to encourage teamwork and collaboration to work towards common goals, ensuring that these efforts promote equity for all members of the school community;
  • Describe and evaluate existing school cultures norms, identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based strategies for positive change;
  • Appraise the importance of reflective practice, evaluating contributions to the school culture and identifying areas for growth and development.
  • Apply knowledge of school culture tailored to the specific needs and dynamics of the school community;
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills within the school community and beyond;
  • Practice leadership qualities to serve as role models and agents of change within the school community and beyond;
  • Plan activities and implement strategies that support a positive school culture.

This module will be assessed through: Forum; Presentation; Reflective journal.
