Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for the module are to be in possession of one of the following: 

a. A Bachelor’s degree in Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting;  

OR 

b. A Bachelor’s degree (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) and PGCE (or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

c. A Bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with 3 years’ relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

d. A Master’s Degree (MQF Level 7 with a minimum of 90 ECTS, or equivalent) and a Permanent Teacher’s Warrant together with relevant experience in an educational setting

Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module aims to cultivate students’ awareness and engagement with global issues and interconnectedness. Course participants explore the complexities of global challenges such as climate change, human rights, social justice, and cultural diversity from a global and interdisciplinary perspectives. 

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Develop a sense of empathy and solidarity towards individuals and communities around the globe;
  • Promote the importance of considering interconnectedness of local and global issues incorporating indigenous knowledge systems;
  • Reflect on personal values, beliefs, and biases in relation to global citizenship and Western privilege;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement solutions to global challenges through education and advocacy.
  • Understand the concept of global citizenship and how this is relevant within the education system;
  • Outline the diversity of cultures, perspectives, and global issues present in the world;
  • Identify service-learning projects and community service initiatives that promote global citizenship values;
  • Explain global citizenship initiatives aimed at creating a more just and sustainable world;
  • Describe the impact of globalization on local communities, economies, and environments.
  • Employ Global citizenship Education to promote social responsibility and interconnectedness;
  • Evaluate consequences of global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and human rights violations on citizens all around the world;
  • Develop intercultural communication skills to effectively interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds;
  • Analyse the role of global institutions, policies, and organizations in addressing global challenges;
  • Demonstrate the importance of issues related to global citizenship to one’s role and work environment.

This module will be assessed through: Assignment; Presentation; Reflective journal.
