Overall Objectives

This module empowers curriculum leaders to design and develop effective curriculum frameworks aligned with educational goals. This includes reflection on the curriculum leader’s role in creating a vision and positive climate in their school or educational establishment. It will focus on the learning and teaching process, where new ideas about the curriculum and professional development are explored, together with monitoring, evaluation, and review of practice.

  • Appraise critically the implications of contemporary curricular issues for educational planning for different educational contexts;
  • Conduct evidence-based research to support curriculum design, development, and continuous improvement, addressing potential limitations of existing frameworks;
  • Produce a personalised action plan that builds on their previous standards, justifying choices on their impact on student learning and equity;
  • Supervise curriculum processes and be part of the decision taking processes when designing and developing a curriculum.
  • Monitor and evaluate processes for improvement of the curriculum and innovative strategies in curriculum design and development.
  • Identify critically the different curriculum models and frameworks demonstrating a critical understanding the strengths, limitations, and challenges for practical implementation;
  • Recognise the key theoretical and philosophical perspectives of curriculum design and development;
  • Evaluate various curriculum models and their implications in local and international contexts;
  • Contextually describe the complexity of curriculum design and development, including the interconnected stages of planning, implementation, evaluation, and refinement.
