Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for the module are to be in possession of one of the following: 

a. A Bachelor’s degree in Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting;  

OR 

b. A Bachelor’s degree (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) and PGCE (or equivalent) together with relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

c. A Bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Education (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent) together with 3 years’ relevant experience in an educational setting; 

OR 

d. A Master’s Degree (MQF Level 7 with a minimum of 90 ECTS, or equivalent) and a Permanent Teacher’s Warrant together with relevant experience in an educational setting

Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module focuses on how educators can foster a growth mindset in themselves and their learners, promoting resilience and willingness to learn from mistakes. Grounded in Carol Dweck’s research, the module examines how mindset influences learning, feedback, and professional development

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Model a growth mindset for students to inspire and motivate them effectively while considering systemic factors that influence their ability to succeed;
  • Empathise with others’ feelings to foster understanding and connection;
  • Adapt to obstacles and challenges by employing appropriate strategies within relevant situations;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote and sustain an inclusive growth mindset culture within the school.
  • Critically analyse educational models and frameworks which integrate growth mindset strategies into classroom practice;
  • Explain different techniques, strategies and challenges for fostering a growth mindset in students, addressing common challenges and misconceptions;
  • Understand the different growth mindset relevant to students in terms of culture and individuals;
  • Assess the social, environmental and systemic factors influencing the growth mindset;
  • Critically discuss the ethical considerations relevant in promoting growth mindset, ensuring that practices are effective, inclusive, fair, and do not reinforce systemic biases.
  • Demonstrate different strategies to encourage students to develop interpersonal skills that support their growth mindset;
  • Practice coaching and mentoring techniques to support and guide students to develop a growth mindset, fostering resilience and self-efficacy;
  • Embed problem-solving skills by identifying strategies in order to overcome barriers to growth mindset;
  • Instil the ability to persevere and learn from one’s own mistakes;
  • Practise giving constructive feedback to facilitate a growth mindset.

This module will be assessed through: Forum; Presentation.
