Overall Objectives and Outcomes

Personal Development modules play a crucial role throughout the programme providing course participants with opportunity to acquire practical skills. These modules involve knowledge, self-reflexivity and practice. In combining knowledge with reflexivity, participants will develop an awareness of one’s strengths, areas which need improvement and blind spots. This reflexivity will also be supported by practice where they will be given opportunity to apply these skills in a safe learning environment, where participants give feedback to each other and receive feedback from the lecturer. 

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

Competences

a. Self-assess how one interacts with others;

b. Develop an awareness of own personal strengths and areas to grow in;

c. Interact well and effectively with others be they clients, colleagues, parents/guardians and superiors;

d. Collaborate effectively in different group settings and the different roles that might be undertaken;

e. Communicate ideas and feelings clearly and assertively to their peers;

f. Participate effectively as a team member contributing to group goals.

Knowledge 

a. Define methods of self-reflexivity;

b. Outline how methods of self-reflexivity may be used to enhance and develop interpersonal and group skills;

c. Develop understanding of verbal and non-verbal communication;

d. Identify particular group dynamics that may support as well as hinder collaborative work;

e. Identify areas of personal growth in relation to interpersonal and group skills.

Skills

a. Identify personal strengths and areas of development through reflexive exercises;

b. Evaluate methods of how to address areas highlighted from peer and tutor feedback in relation to work practice;

c. Reflect on how verbal and non-verbal behaviours influence interactions with colleagues, clients, parents/guardians and superiors;

d. Show how different group dynamics can manifest within different settings;

e. Use active listening skills to understand and respond to others effectively;

f. Apply principles of self-compasssion as they learn to engage in self-reflexivity, while also addressing areas of growth;

g. Communicate appropriately according to group dynamics and contexts to achieve results.

Assessment Methods

This module will be assessed through: Reflective Journal.
