Overall Objectives and Outcomes

During this module course participants will be given the opportunity to comprehensively develop their knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Theory and its application to different difficulties and situations as well as how it may be combined with other techniques in dealing with trauma and bereavement.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

Competences

a. Carry out a functional assessment;

b. Create an intervention plan following the functional assessment;

c. Carry out behavior modification techniques, cognitive approaches and restructuring in therapy and interventions;

d. Develop and implement CBT-based intervention plans tailored to individual cases of trauma and bereavement;

e. Ensure the good use of Cognitive Behavioral Techniques;

f. Ensure proficiency in the use of CBT and other techniques in trauma and bereavement.

Knowledge 

a. Comprehensively describe Behavioral and Cognitive Behavioral Theories;

b. Define functional assessment and explain its significance in CBT;

c. Analyze the key theories and models related to trauma and bereavement;

d. Describe the effect of perceptions/cognition on one’s feelings and actions;

e. Outline the application of the CBT approach to life-challenges and mental difficulties;

f. Describe the CBT Model and approach to trauma and bereavement;

g. Explain the cognitive and behavioural mechanisms that Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy;

h. Explain the impact that cognitive behavioral interventions have on client outcomes.

Skills

a. Construct a functional assesment;

b. Evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive interventions in reducing trauma-related symptoms;

c. Apply cogntive behavioural techniques in the therapeutic process starting from a functional assessment to termination;

d. Utilise cognitive behavioural techniques twithin the framework of an empathic realtionship;

e. Effectively appply the Cognitive Behavioural Model in dealing with trauma and bereavement issues.

Assessment Methods

This module will be assessed through: Assignment and Practical Task.
