Duncan Mercieca is deeply committed to amplifying the voices of children with disabilities, their families, carers, and educators. Grounded in values of social justice and inclusion, his research bridges philosophy, educational theory, and empirical inquiry to challenge barriers and reimagine practice. Drawing on post-structural perspectives, he explores diversity, otherness, and disability through qualitative and reflective approaches. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, Duncan has also worked in mainstream and special schools in Malta and Scotland.

Duncan Mercieca is committed to amplifying the voices of children with disabilities, their families, and educators. His research challenges barriers in special and inclusive education, inspired by Paulo Freire’s vision of education as a force for hope and justice. Grounded in social justice and inclusion, his work draws on post structural philosophy and qualitative inquiry to explore diversity, otherness, and disability, advocating ethical, empowering, and critically reflective educational practices.
