Special Interest Groups

Establishing a special interest group is an amazing initiative for the Institute for Education as it fosters inclusivity, enabling academics to engage in discussions and collaborations beyond our institution. This approach broadens our intellectual horizons and encourages diverse perspectives, enriching our academic community.

The Institute for Education Special Interest Groups

The Institute for Education (IfE) is establishing Special Interest Groups (SIGs) within our community of academic staff, researchers, staff members, course participants and other interested stakeholders who are actively engaged in teaching, learning, research and professional development within our institution.

What is a Special Interest Group?

A SIG is a community within a larger organisation with a shared interest in advancing a specific area of common interest. Within the education sector SIGs are typically formed to advocate for specific educational issues, promote innovative practices, influence policy decisions, conduct research and collaborate on initiatives aimed at advancing shared goals.

As a dynamic hub for educational innovation, research, and collaboration, we recognise the immense value of fostering specialised communities focused on specific areas of interest within the field of education. The aim behind this initiative is for SIGs to serve as catalysts for driving change, advocating for important educational issues, and fostering collaboration among like-minded individuals. They will provide a platform for educators, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders to come together, share knowledge, explore new ideas, and collectively address challenges within their respective domains.

Through this opportunity of becoming a member of a SIG or setting up one yourself, one will have the possibility to:

  • Connect with Like-Minded Professionals: Build relationships and network with individuals who share the same passion and commitment to advancing education.
  • Advance Expertise: Deepen one’s knowledge, hone their skills, and stay informed about the latest developments and research within their area of interest.
  • Influence Change: Advocate for important educational issues, shape policies, and contribute to meaningful change within the education sector.
  • Collaborate on Projects: Collaborate on research initiatives, educational projects, advocacy campaigns, and other activities aimed at addressing shared goals and challenges.
  • Access Resources and Support: Gain access to resources, funding opportunities, and institutional support to facilitate the success of SIG initiatives.

All individuals and organizations from all sectors of the education community may apply to set up a SIG in the name of the Institute for Education, including educators, researchers, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and industry partners, as long as at least one applicant is an individual who has had direct connection with the IfE as a course participant, employed, on contract for service or engaged with the IfE; or else collaborating with one of the above to propose a SIG to the School of Research at the IfE. The School of Research, within the Institute for Education will be managing and supporting SIGs set up within the Institution.
