Team Building Activities
Following the success of Wellbeing Day, the decision was made to extend the focus on wellness in the workplace. Throughout April and May, 1-hour Yoga sessions were held at the IfE, giving staff the opportunity to continue prioritizing their health and relaxation while creating a calming and balanced work environment.
For St. Patrick’s Day, the team got into the festive spirit by dressing in green to mark the occasion. To add a sweet touch to the celebration, green cupcakes were prepared and shared, bringing a fun and cheerful vibe to the day.
To celebrate Employee Appreciation Day, a special Wellbeing Day was organized, focused on promoting health and relaxation. The day began with fresh morning smoothies, followed by a series of 3-hour sessions including Yoga, Pilates, and Meditation. Later, everyone came together for a potluck, where staff prepared and shared a variety of healthy homemade dishes. Coinciding with Women’s Day, uplifting messages and flowers were also given to the women at IFE as a small gesture of appreciation and celebration.
For Carnival, the IfE came alive with some lively decorations that reflected the joyful spirit of the season. Staff shared traditional Maltese treats like perlini and prinjolata, adding a sweet, nostalgic flavour to the day and creating a cheerful atmosphere filled with local charm.
For Valentine’s Day, the HR department decorated the office with festive touches and created a cheerful atmosphere. They prepared themed treats and food, including the traditional pancakes enjoyed every year. A special addition this year was the creative “love pills” – small capsules filled with positive and uplifting messages, adding a thoughtful and heartwarming touch to the celebration.
We began the year by celebrating Australia Day in honour of our Australian colleagues. The event included a classic sausage sizzle and delicious homemade lamingtons, thoughtfully prepared by some of our team members. It was a great chance for everyone to enjoy a true taste of Australia and connect in a friendly, laid-back atmosphere.
The IfE team celebrated the festive season with a memorable Christmas team-building event. The day began with an engaging tour of a local estate, where we explored the rich history of Maltese limestone and its craftsmanship over the years, deepening our appreciation for this iconic material. We also unleashed our creativity by trying our hand at stone carving, creating our own Maltese crosses. Additionally, we attended an insightful talk on olive harvesting in Malta, complemented by a tasting of locally produced olives and olive oil. The event concluded with a delightful lunch at a restaurant in Siggiewi, providing a perfect opportunity to relax and reflect on the enriching experiences of the day.
To celebrate the men at IfE, we hosted a special lunch for all the staff at our premises. Each man was given a handmade keychain as a celebratory gift. The event also featured a fun photo session where everyone could try on different paper accessories like moustaches, ties, bows, and hats. The atmosphere was lively and joyful, providing a great opportunity for staff to come together, share some laughter, and appreciate the contributions of the men at IfE. During the event, we also collected donations for staff which were then sent to Fondazzjoni Caritas.
Halloween at the IfE brought out the festive spirit with decorated offices and a “reverse trick-or-treat” initiative, where HR visited offices to distribute candy. A costume competition added to the excitement, with the winner receiving a spooky prize, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for all.
During the summer months, the IfE hosted a Pizza Night, providing staff with an opportunity to connect in a relaxed, informal setting outside of work hours. The event fostered camaraderie and strengthened team bonds, promoting a more collaborative and harmonious work environment.
Equality remains a cornerstone of the IfE’s values. On March 8, we celebrated International Women’s Day with a high tea event, honoring the achievements and contributions of women within the organization. Handmade mementos were also distributed to all female staff, further reinforcing the culture of appreciation and recognition.

Recognizing that our greatest asset is our people, Employee Appreciation Day celebrated all staff members with a thoughtful token of appreciation and a plant for each office to brighten the workspace. A terrace lunch brought the team together, fostering camaraderie and a sense of belonging.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, the HR team at IfE distributed gift bags to all staff members, each containing heart-shaped chocolates. Furthermore, a delightful assortment of savory and sweet pancakes adorned with various toppings was prepared for colleagues to enjoy together.

To get into the Christmas Spirit, the staff at the IfE came together to deck the halls of the premises. Collaboratively setting up decorations in the entrance, halls, and individual offices, they collectively crafted the perfect ambiance for the joyous holiday season to envelop the IfE.
In continuation of the seasonal celebrations, the team gathered at the office to share a delightful breakfast, engage in entertaining games and quizzes, and participate in a Secret Santa activity. To cap off the festivities, the team enjoyed a festive lunch afterwards.
This year, on the 21st of August a potluck was hosted at the IfE for staff and their families. This not only provided an opportunity for everyone to bond and connect but also showcased the diverse culinary styles of participants through the array of dishes they contributed. We also organised a photographic exhibition showcasing the talents of our employees, entitled Capturing Moments as part of International Photography Day.
Building upon the triumph of last year’s well-received staff lunches, the initiative was reintroduced in 2023. Each department received an identical budget and was assigned the responsibility of organizing lunch for the entire IfE staff once every three weeks. This resulted in the creation of some very inventive and delicious meals, fostering a sense of camaraderie as everyone savored the results of their collective efforts. Naturally, a spirited atmosphere of friendly competition emerged, motivating teams to strive for excellence in crafting the most outstanding lunches possible.
The Christmas Team building event was held on the 19th of December at the Urban Valley Hotel in Kappara. Staff enjoyed playing quizzes which helped them get to know each other more in an informal setting. They also had an archery session. it was the first time that some of the staff had the opportunity to practice such a sport. As the activities ended, a delicious lunch was served, followed by the distribution of gifts for Secret Santa.
On the 29th of April, we organized another Team Building event. We spent the day in Gozo. Visited the wonderful Old Prison at Cittadella and had a very detailed explanation of how it was used and what was found. Later on we took a walk around Cittadella and then went for Lunch.
We believe strongly in showing appreciation towards our staff. With this, on both occasions, we celebrated by giving the staff a small gift and appreciation notes.
After the success of the Breakfast Club last year, this year we decided to change things a little bit and opted for Lunch instead of Breakfast. That way, we would have more time together to share lunch. Again, the creativity and competitive spirit of IfE staff prevailed, as you can see in the below photos. We had various burgers, international cuisine, local cuisine and all trying to keep in the decided budget.
After an absence of two years, the 2021 Christmas team building event was something everyone was looking forward to. This year, we went to Dingli Scouts Headquarters where we had some games and lunch together. At the end of which, secret Santa gifts were exchanged.
The staff at IfE consider their workspace as their home, and like every other home, we decorate together. You can see some photos below of our latest Christmas decorating activity where the whole team pitched in to decorate and obviously, we had some food and drinks as well.
In a bid to strengthen and further develop the IfE workforce by inspiring transformative and innovative ideas, the Administration team came up with the idea of organising the IfE Breakfast Club. The purpose was that once every week or two, a small group of employees would prepare breakfast fast for the rest of the staff. Being IfE, it ended up being an unofficial competition on who can be most creative in preparing breakfast.
