AI in Education: Don't Skip the Skills!

Christa Wüthrich is a journalist, educator, and founder of enduri (www.enduri.org), a platform that helps students develop effective learning strategies and supports teachers with practical tools. With experience in both education and humanitarian work, including as an ICRC delegate in Rwanda, she brings a global perspective to learning. A former World Education Summit speaker, she holds degrees in teaching, journalism, international relations, and learning coaching. Originally from Switzerland, she now lives in Malta with her four children.

Education faces a crisis: teacher attrition, rising mental health issues, and growing student disengagement. As AI transforms learning, many students lack the skills to study effectively or use technology critically. This paper highlights the urgent need to teach “how to learn” before “how to use AI.” Drawing on learning science, pedagogy, neuroscience, and social behaviour, it advocates embedding metacognitive and strategy based learning skills early to foster independence and adaptability.
