Janice Darmanin is Senior Manager of the School of Research at the Institute for Education and a visiting lecturer. She holds a Master’s in Applied Educational Leadership and is pursuing a PhD in Teacher Education and Educational Sciences at the University of Ljubljana. Her research focuses on neurocognitive-informed pedagogy, bridging neuroscience and classroom practice to support teachers in applying brain-aligned, evidence-based strategies.

This study explores the role of conation, the innate drive that fuels task engagement, self regulation, and intrinsic motivation, in shaping meaningful learning. It examines how the interplay between student motivation and teacher practices influences learning experiences. Guided by educational neuroscience, it highlights how classroom environments that nurture conation foster persistence, resilience, and lifelong learning, enabling students to develop autonomy and sustain goal directed behaviours essential for academic and personal growth.
