Photography: Skills and Techniques
The module aims to provide the course participant with a good understanding of the basic practical and theoretic aspects of photography. By making use of a variety of photographic equipment the learners will be able to carry out a variety of photographic techniques in different lighting situations whilst using the right terminology. Additionally, course participants will be able to develop a series of images around a chosen theme.
By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
a. Create a set of images using the correct technique;
b. Produce still imagery under different lighting conditions;
c. Manage files appropriately using digital software;
d. Monitor correct use of equipment;
e. Ensure the correct use of different light modifiers;
f. Create a series of photographs based on a specific theme, to a good photographic standard;
g. Construct still images to specific technical requirements;
h. Compose still imagery in relation to photographic principles, making use of the right terminology.
a. Define the three main functions to achieve a well exposed image in natural light, ISO, Shutter speed
and Aperture;
b. Identify the appropriate lenses for different scenarios;
c. List the different white balance functions;
d. Identify basic composition rule, such as rule of thirds and rule of odds;
e. Explain the use of camera light meter and its function.
a. Apply basic editing skills to images of choice;
b. Plan for a photoshoot in natural light;
c. Demostrate the skills to cope with different lighting conditions;
d. Operate the camera appropriately to achieve desired results;
e. Apply correct colour correction to imagery presented;
f. Use different light modifiers to control lighting;
g. Use the correct white balance for the scenario at hand;
h. Plan a photoshoot revolving around a specific theme.
This module will be assessed through: Sketchbook, Presentation, Assignment.
