Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module is designed to give candidates a solid understanding of the physiological systems in the human body and their response to exercise. This will include the energy systems, maintenance of homeostasis and physiological adaptation of the body systems to exercise.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

Competences

  • systematically comprehend key aspects of sports physiology;
  • Differentiate the physiological metabolic processes that govern human movement and apply these processes to physical performance;
  • critically assess research articles.

Knowledge

  • Explain how different systems of the body respond and adapt to physical activity;
  • Idenitfy major muscles and muscle contraction;
  • Describe Bioenergetics and metabolism;
  • Expain the Anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Skills

  • synthesise knowledge of physiology to identify better training methods;
  • Demonstrate skills in literature searching and interpretation, writing, and referencing;
  • critically assess research articles.
