Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module is designed to prepare educators for the design and delivery of safe, engaging, and progressive swimming lessons for all ages and levels, as part of the Physical Education Curriculum.  As an educator one should be knowledgeable enough to guide all the learners through their learning process, from the ability to float, to the ability to master the different swimming techniques.  The aim of this module is to equip the participants with the needed tools to be able to instil a love for swimming while providing their learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to enjoy the water safely and confidently. Course participants will be supported in developing their ability to teach swimming at different levels, using appropriate activities, progressions, equipment, and feedback.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

Competences

  • Design a series of progressive swimming lessons in line with the relevant curriculum/syllabus;
  • Create effective swimming activities specifically tailored for the learner’s current ability and aspirations;
  • Ensure that safety protocols are adhered in the water;
  • Manage safe and effective swimming activities as appropriate for the learner’s current ability.

Knowledge 

  • Describe different safety precautions;
  • Be familiar with the emergency measures applicable;
  • Understand the importance to be confident and comfortable in water;
  • recognize the level of the students;
  • Explain the difference between the swimming techniques and swimming strokes.

Skills

  • Prepare, evaluate, and write effective swimming lesson plans;
  • Identify the areas of improvement, to modify skill development activities and training progressions to suit different levels of ability;
  • Use appropriate instructional skills and terminology to demonstrate the proper way of various swimming techniques and strokes;
  • Master the skill to be able to make an effective demonstration when teaching.

 

Assessment Methods

This module will be assessed through: Practical Assignment and Theory Assignment.
