Overall Objectives and Outcomes

This module aims to enable course participants design and deliver safe, engaging, and progressive martial arts activities as part of a physical education curriculum. It also aims to provide course participants with the necessary skills, techniques and knowledge to enable them to teach core martial arts elements by adopting adequate progressions, equipment, and feedback.

By the end of this module, the learner will be able to:

Competences

  • Design a series of progressive martial arts activities and lesson plans;
  • create a scheme of work aligned with the existing physical education curriculum learning outcomes;
  • Ensure safe and effective martial arts practice with their students;
  • Adopt the acquired knowledge to guide their students to create a short choreographic kata (form).

Knowledge 

  • Identify strategies aimed at creating exciting and motivating learning experiences for their students;
  • Recognise elements required to create a short choreographic kata (form);
  • Determine the various aspects of safe martial arts practice;
  • Organize core combat modalities to create a scheme of work.

Skills

  • Adopt strategies aimed at providing student-centred learning experiences;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of body movements and combat strategies;
  • Employ progressions and differentiation to suit different ability levels.

 

Assessment Methods

This module will be assessed through: Digital Portfolio Assignment and Practical Assessment.
