Laura Formosa is a Deputy Head at a primary Church school and a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta’s Faculty of Education. She holds a BEd (Hons) and an MSc in Educational Leadership and Management. Her research focuses on teacher learning and professional development through Lesson Study. Laura has presented her work internationally, published widely, and serves as a reviewer for leading academic publications in the field.

This presentation explores how teachers engage with research to inform classroom practice, drawing on a mixed methods case study of a Maltese college. It investigates how primary and secondary teachers use pedagogical and research based knowledge to guide teaching and curriculum planning. Findings reveal varied engagement across schools, shaped by leadership, culture, and systemic factors. The study highlights enablers, barriers, and recommendations for fostering stronger research informed practices in education.
