Managing the Textiles Workshop
The aim of this module is to ensure that learners take full responsibility of the equipment available in the workshop and are aware of the related health and safety regulations. Learners are expected to practice and demonstrate knowledge in both using and maintaining the machinery. They will be made aware of the importance in keeping the workshop and the equipment in a clean environment, good working order and safe to self, others, materials and equipment itself.
By the end of this programme, participants should be able to:
a. Organise demonstrations on best operations of different sewing machines and their functions, with attention to eliminate risks and hazards in machinery and equipment in the workshop;
b. Explain clearly the importance of correctly threading the sewing machine-upper and bottom threads;
c. Correlate specific sewing machines’ attachments and needles to their purposes;
d. Perform competent demonstrations and safe use of the overlock machine and/or the blind stich machine – threading, using and cleaning;
e. Perform competent demonstrations and safe use of the embroidery machine – threading, using and cleaning.
a. Identify the function of the various machinery and equipment available in the textiles workshop;
b. Recall the threading of the sewing machine-upper and bottom threads;
c. Relate machinery attachments and needles for specific functions;
d. Recognize specific threading of the overlock machine and/or the blind stich machine – threading, using and cleaning;
e. Recognize specific threading of the embroidery machine – threading, using and cleaning.

b. Demonstrate safe threading of the sewing machine; upper and bottom threads;
c. Choose machinery attachments and needles for specific functions;
d. Practice safely and correctly thread the overlock machine and/or the blind stich machine, maintaining it in clean working order;
e. Practice safely and correctly thread the embroidery machine maintaining it in clean working order.
