Programme Description

This programme is targeted towards professionals who wish to enhance their skills and competences in pedagogy. The target audience is graduates wishing to join the education sector as a Primary educator, or persons already within the primary education sector who wish to pursue an initial teacher training programme. It aims to equip participants with the necessary tools and competences to teach effectively in the 21st-century classroom whilst fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for learning.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to be in possession of:

1. An MQF Level 3 (minimum Grade 5 or C) in Maltese, English Language and Mathematics awarded by MATSEC or an equivalent examination body recognised by the Institute for Education;

AND

2. A minimum of one of the following:

a) A Bachelor’s Degree (MQF Level 6 with a minimum of 180 ECTS) with 60 ECTS in the subjects being taught in the Primary curriculum OR in an area related to early childhood education and care OR inclusive education

OR

b) In the case where applicants are in possession of a Bachelor’s degree not in one of the subjects taught in the Primary Curriculum and are already employed as a supply teacher, applicants may be admitted based on an interview where they will be asked to submit a portfolio evidencing their work and accomplishments during their teaching experience.

Applications for the Master of Education Primary Education programme open mid-May of each year with programmes commencing the following September.
